Do Your April Showers Bring You May Flowers?

Do Your April Showers Bring You May Flowers?

April showers bring May flowers.”

It’s a saying we all have heard, and we know it is true.

The wet, dreary weather we tend to endure in early spring gives way to a beautiful array of vibrant colors and energizing scents as time passes.

While the rain is not a welcome occurrence, it is necessary for the beauty that we all look forward to each year.

This fun, familiar saying reminds me of a Bible verse found in Romans 8.

It says,

“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.”

(Romans 8:18)

This verse has both short-term and long-term implications.

In the short-term, here on this earth, we are all bound to face hardships, trials and suffering, but we can trust that better days are sure to come.

As my pastor said recently, “Trials that we face can often bring blessings.”

As we draw nearer to God through those hardships, we can persevere as we find strength in the Lord and foster a closer relationship with Him in the process.

I know that my blindness, as it has done in the past, will continue to bring me dark, dreary days from time to time.

Now, however, I am enjoying a season of joy and blessings that, at times, I never thought would be possible for me.

Throughout my journey with sight loss, there were moments that passed in which I truly believed that I would never be able to live independently, have a career, or get married

Here I am though, blessed with all three!

God has delivered me through countless “April showers”, and I trust that He will continue to bring beautiful “May flowers” into my life after each storm.

The most beautiful of which is the strong faith and close relationship I have grown with Him through it all.

The long-term implications of this verse are even better!

Through Jesus Christ, we are promised not only relief from the suffering, pain, and trials of this world but also from our sins.

Can you imagine how beautiful the flowers will be in heaven?

And, I bet we won’t have to deal with any of the pesky rain that precedes the arrival of them here on Earth.

The following verses go on to reiterate the promise that we have because of our salvation through Jesus Christ.

“For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved.”

(Romans 8:19-24)

Rain drops falling on white flowers that are drooping downwards.

What kind of storm are you facing today?

Trust me, I know that it is hard, and, sometimes, there are no favorable outcomes to our problems here on earth.

But, because of our salvation through Jesus Christ, no matter what we suffer in this life, we are promised freedom, glory, and an  eternity of beauty.

That promise, my friend, makes every shower and struggle worth it!
